O-Ring Quote Checklist: What to Send for Fast, Accurate Pricing

Most quoting delays come from missing specs. This guide shows exactly what to send—so you get the right material, the correct size, and a quote faster (often within 24–48 hours when specs are clear).

Updated: 2026 • Reading time: ~6 minutes

The 60-second summary

If you only send one message, include: size (ID × CS), material (or medium + temperature), quantity, and any tolerance. Add photos/drawings if it’s custom or non-standard.

Pro tip: If you don’t know the material, tell us the medium (oil/fuel/water/steam/chemicals) and the temperature range. We can recommend NBR / FKM / EPDM / silicone options quickly.

1) Size & units (avoid the #1 mistake)

Always specify the unit (mm or inch). For O-rings, we usually quote based on: ID × CS (Inside Diameter × Cross Section). If you have a drawing, attach it.

  • Preferred: ID × CS (e.g., 25.0 mm × 3.0 mm)
  • Also ok: OD × ID × CS (if available)
  • If you only know OD: send OD and a photo with a ruler/caliper reading

2) Material selection (what actually matters)

Material is not just “rubber.” The correct compound depends on medium, temperature, pressure, and movement. If you know the material, say it. If not, send conditions.

NBR (Nitrile)
Common for oils & hydraulic fluids; good value.
FKM (Viton®)
Higher temperature and fuels/chemicals; premium choice.
EPDM
Water/steam applications; not for petroleum oils.
Silicone / HNBR / others
Special temperature or dynamic requirements.

Send these 4 conditions if you’re unsure:

  • Medium: oil / fuel / water / steam / gas / chemical name
  • Temperature range: min–max (°C/°F)
  • Pressure: working and peak (bar/psi)
  • Motion: static seal or dynamic (reciprocating/rotating)

3) Quantity & delivery timeline

Pricing changes significantly between prototypes, small batches, and repeat procurement. Tell us your target quantity and whether you expect repeat orders.

  • Sample / prototype: 10–50 pcs
  • Small batch: 100–1,000 pcs
  • Production: 5,000+ pcs or scheduled releases
  • Needed-by date: helps us propose the best production route

4) Tolerances & fit (where problems happen)

If your seal leaks or is too tight, tolerance is usually the reason. If you have a drawing, share it. Otherwise, tell us what matters: tight fit, easy assembly, or leak-proof at pressure.

  • Standard tolerance is fine for most maintenance parts
  • Tight tolerance is recommended for critical assemblies or high pressure
  • Groove info (if available): groove diameter, width, depth, surface finish

5) Packaging & labeling (saves you time later)

If you manage multiple sizes/materials, packaging details prevent mix-ups. We support sorting, labeling, and export-ready packing for repeat procurement.

  • Pack size: 50/100/200 pcs per bag or box
  • Label fields: size, material, hardness, batch/lot, PO number
  • Mixed kits: service kits / maintenance kits by size list

Need help confirming the spec?

If you have a photo with caliper readings, an old sample, or the assembly conditions, we can help confirm the correct option and reduce the risk of wrong parts.
